There was this young lad who always report to school late. It appears he’s the last person to enter the class, and comes at the time class is already in session. The interesting part is, anytime he enters, his teacher will give him some few strokes as his punishment for coming late, and after walk straight to his seat. This routine continued for some time, and during one of the day, his class teacher became a bit concern about this young boy behavior, so he decided to find out what really keep him at home that, he always report to school late, and so, he decided to follow up.
He stood by the junction few meters close to his home, where, the boy passes to school, and to his surprise, the young boy always has to take his sick mother in a wheelchair to a nearby hospital before going to school. This happens to be his daily routine to ensure his wheelchair ridden mother is attended to, before going to school. As the class teacher observed what this young lad has to go through before coming to school. As he observed him, tears flown through his eyes, and he quickly went back to school to meet the boy, and as the usual thing, as soon as he entered, he stretched his hands to receive his strokes, but to his surprise, the teacher gave the stick to the young boy to beat him instead. From that moment, the teacher learned such a great lesson and became a good friend to the young boy.
Fellows, what morals can we all learn from this boy’s story?
This is something we all do at some point, especially in how we view and treat each other, even our very own people. Do you understand why certain individuals do and act differently from the way we behave? Often times, we’re too quick to pronounce judgment on people we know nothing about the kind of difficulties they may be experiencing in their lives. Recently, I came across a phrase which reads, “Don’t judge me because I sin differently from you”
As you reflect on this boy’s story, I’m sure it gives you a mental picture on the basic principles of human relationship, of understanding people from their circumstances, rather than the way we view them. A lot of people out there are fighting battles we know nothing about, but we see them carrying an appearance we think, it’s all joy and rosy with them. Just as in the case of the teacher, he decided to enquire about the boy situation, after many times of coming to school late. We may not have the time to enquire or asked, but we can keep our tempers and emotions cool anytime we feel like exploding, remember you may not know where your missiles will land you.
I’m sure, as often as we want to see the happiness of our brothers and sisters, it behooves on us to do the needful to really take a second thought of what we say to people, and react to them, we may not know how our words and judgments may have the potential to either bring up or down the spirit of that person.
Let’s appreciate and respect to understand, and tolerate each other, for all of us, are carrying invincible loads (problems) , and fighting battles none of us know.
